The 50s Style kettle in matte champagne - stainless steel, 3000W, seven cups

This is the kettle that put Smeg on kitchen worktops, in a matte champagne finish. Underneath the styling it is a well-built 1.7 litre stainless steel kettle: 3000W brings a full load to the boil in roughly four to five minutes and a single cup in under one, the lid opens softly rather than springing back at your hand, and the limescale filter lifts out for rinsing. The element is concealed, the base swivels a full 360 degrees so you can set it down from any angle, and it switches itself off at 100 degrees. A water level indicator saves you lifting the lid to check.

1.7 litre capacity - seven cups
Enough for seven cups in one boil, so a full pot of tea does not need two goes.

3000W element
A full 1.7 litres boils in roughly four to five minutes, and one or two cups in under a minute.

Soft-opening lid
The stainless steel lid opens gently instead of flipping up, which keeps steam and splashes away from your hand when you refill it.

Removable limescale filter
A stainless steel filter that lifts out and rinses under the tap - the thing that keeps scale out of the cup in a hard water area.

360 degree swivel base
Lift it off and set it down from any angle, left-handed or right-handed.
