Product Description
A licence-free pair that works where there is no phone signal at all
Walkie talkies solve the problem a mobile cannot: they work with no network, no signal and no credit. On a farm, a site, a campsite, a boat or a big house, two handsets talk directly to each other. This Alecto set is a twin pack, quoted at up to 6km range, operating on the PMR446 band - which is licence-free in Ireland, so there is nothing to register and nothing to pay. Bear in mind that the headline range is the open-ground, line-of-sight figure every manufacturer quotes; buildings, hills, trees and overhead power lines all cut it down, so expect less in a town and more across open country.
Licence free on PMR446
PMR446 is the licence-free band across Ireland and the EU. No registration, no licence fee, nothing to renew - take them out of the box and use them.
Works with no network
The handsets talk directly to one another. No mast, no SIM, no coverage and no data - which is the whole point when a mobile shows no bars.
Up to 6km range
The quoted figure is for open ground with a clear line of sight. Buildings, hills, woodland and overhead cables all reduce it, so treat it as the best case rather than the typical one.
Supplied as a pair
Two handsets in the box, ready to talk to each other out of the packaging.
