Dolby Atmos from one bar, with no subwoofer to hide

Most Dolby Atmos soundbars come with a subwoofer you then have to find a home for, run power to, and explain to whoever else lives there. The HW-S60D does away with it: seven drivers including built-in woofers and a dedicated centre channel, all in a single 67cm bar that sits under the TV and needs one plug. It is a genuine 5.0 channel system with side-firing drivers for width, and it decodes Dolby Atmos wirelessly from a compatible Samsung TV. SpaceFit Sound measures your room and corrects for it, and Q-Symphony uses your TV's own speakers alongside the bar rather than muting them - so you get more channels than the bar alone provides. Alexa is built in, and AirPlay, Chromecast and Spotify Connect are all there for music.

One bar, no subwoofer, real bass
Seven drivers including built-in woofers mean you get low end without a separate box on the floor. If your reason for not owning a soundbar is that you have nowhere to put the sub, this is the answer - but be clear that the bass will not reach the depth a dedicated subwoofer delivers.

True 5.0 channels with a dedicated centre
A discrete centre channel is what makes dialogue sit clearly in the middle of the screen rather than smearing across it, and side-firing drivers widen the soundstage past the ends of the bar. Many bars at this price are 2.1 or 3.1 with virtual processing standing in for the rest.

Wireless Dolby Atmos
With a compatible Samsung TV the Atmos signal travels over Wi-Fi rather than requiring an HDMI run, so the bar can sit under a wall-mounted TV with only a power cable visible. Dolby Atmos, Dolby Atmos Music, Dolby Digital Plus, Dolby TrueHD and DTS Virtual:X are all decoded.

Q-Symphony uses your TV's speakers too
Instead of switching the television's speakers off, Q-Symphony plays them in concert with the bar, adding their drivers to the soundstage. On a Samsung TV this is a genuine step up and it costs nothing extra.

SpaceFit Sound room correction
The bar measures the acoustics of the room it is actually in and adjusts its output to suit - so a hard-floored living room with glass on one side does not end up harsh and echoing.

Adaptive Sound and Active Voice Amplifier
Adaptive Sound analyses what you are watching scene by scene and adjusts accordingly, while the Active Voice Amplifier lifts dialogue when it detects background noise in the room. Between them they solve the 'I can't hear what they're saying' problem better than turning the volume up does.

Alexa built in
Amazon Alexa runs on the bar itself, so you can ask for music, control smart home devices or check the weather without another speaker in the room. Google Assistant is supported too.

AirPlay, Chromecast and Spotify Connect
Send music straight from an iPhone, an Android device or the Spotify app over Wi-Fi at full quality, rather than dropping to Bluetooth. Bluetooth 5.2 is there when you want it.

HDMI eARC and optical
One HDMI output with eARC carries lossless audio back from the TV on a single cable and passes volume control through via HDMI CEC. An optical input covers older televisions.

Game Mode and Night Mode
Game, Music and Standard modes tune the output to the source, and Night Mode compresses the dynamic range so you can watch a film late without the quiet parts vanishing and the loud parts waking the house.

Wall mount included
A wall mount bracket and remote come in the box, so mounting it under a wall-hung TV needs nothing extra.
