The Flip has been the default answer to 'which portable speaker' for a decade, and the 7 is the version that finally stops sounding like a compromise. JBL's AI Sound Boost analyses the music as it plays and pushes the driver harder wherever it can do so without distorting - so the bass has genuine weight rather than the polite thump most speakers this size settle for. It is IP68 rated against water and dust and certified to survive a metre drop onto concrete.

AI Sound Boost
An algorithm analyses the signal in real time and drives the woofer as hard as it can without distorting, extracting more volume and more bass from the same hardware than a fixed tuning would allow.

Separate woofer and tweeter
A 45 x 80 mm racetrack woofer handles the low end while a dedicated 16 mm tweeter takes the treble - 35 W RMS in total across the two, which is why detail survives at volume.

IP68 waterproof and dustproof
IP68 is the full rating: submersible, not merely splash-resistant, and sealed against dust and sand. It goes in the boat, to the beach and into the shower without a second thought.

Drop-proof to one metre
Certified to survive a 1 metre drop onto concrete - the failure that actually kills portable speakers, far more often than water ever does.

14 hours, or 16 with Playtime Boost
Fourteen hours of playback as standard, extending to 16 with Playtime Boost switched on, from a 17.28 Wh battery that recharges in two and a half hours.

Auracast
Link any number of Auracast-enabled JBL speakers to play the same music in sync - across a garden, between rooms, or as a stereo pair.

Bluetooth 5.4
The current Bluetooth specification, for a more stable connection at range and lower power draw than the generation it replaces.

Interchangeable accessories
The carabiner supplied in the box clips it to a rucksack or a bike, and the mounting point takes JBL's other straps and hooks.

JBL Portable app
Adjust the EQ, manage Auracast groups and update the firmware from the app on iOS or Android rather than living with the factory tuning.

Squad camouflage finish
The Squad colourway is JBL's camouflage pattern - a genuine alternative to the plain black everyone else has.
