Turn an old laptop back into a fast one
The single biggest speed upgrade available to any machine still running a mechanical hard drive is replacing it with an SSD, and a 2.5 inch SATA drive is the straight swap that does it - no new cables, no motherboard compatibility to check. The QX 512GB reads at up to 560MB/s and writes at up to 500MB/s, effectively the ceiling of what the SATA III interface allows, against roughly 100MB/s from a spinning disk. 1500G shock resistance
Rated to 1500G shock and 20G vibration when not operating. A hard drive that takes a knock often dies on the spot; this does not have a head to crash.

Mean time between failures of 1,500,000 hours, with wear-levelling and ECC error correction working in the background to keep the data intact as the NAND ages.
